SANDWICH – Sandwich recently hired a new harbormaster with a decorated maritime track record.

John Kondratowicz, who spent over 30 years in the Coast Guard and most recently a captain at the Southeastern New England sector, is also a longtime Sandwich resident.

Assistant town manager Doug Lapp said selectmen had a difficult time choosing between the final three candidates, but went with “KZ,” as he is known to many, for his stellar track record.

“He’s in command of all the coast guard activities for over 1,750 personnel,” Lapp said.

“KZ” has a master’s degree in national security and strategy studies and a bachelor’s in business administration and management.

“He’s going to a good leader for the team,” Lapp said.

Kondratowicz was chosen out of a field of 49 applicants.
