BOSTON (AP) — One of three new justices on the state’s highest court has been ceremonially sworn-in to the post.
Friends, family and colleagues of David Lowy packed the Massachusetts House of Representatives chamber for the Friday ceremony.
Lowy had already been serving on the Supreme Judicial Court for several months after his nomination by Republican Gov. Charlie Baker was confirmed by the Governor’s Council.
Justices Kimberly Budd and Frank Gaziano were also tapped to fill vacancies on the high court caused by the retirements of Justices Robert Cordy, Fernande Duffly and Francis Spina.
A ceremonial swearing-in for Budd is scheduled on Monday.
Lowy had previously been a Superior Court judge and presided last year over the murder trial of Philip Chism, the teenager convicted of raping and killing his math teacher at Danvers High School.
