HYANNIS- A traditional water cannon salute will greet the arriving JetBlue aircraft at Barnstable Municipal Airport on Thursday, to mark the inauguration of seasonal, daily non-stop service between JFK Airport in New York and Hyannis.
The JetBlue flight is scheduled to arrive at 1:05 p.m. and be welcomed by a host of local dignitaries with a reception for invited guests at the airport’s secure waiting area.
The first flight from Hyannis to JFK is scheduled to depart that day only at 3:05 p.m.
Subsequent flights will leave Hyannis daily at 1:45 p.m. through September 9.
“Cape Cod is a mecca for visitors from all over the world – and now with this short, one hour hop from JFK to the heart of Cape Cod – we are optimistic that both New Yorkers and international guests will be encouraged to visit more frequently – or for the first time, ” said Wendy Northcross, CEO of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce.
All flights will be on modern Embraer E-190 twin-engine jets that carry up to 100 passengers.
