New Mashpee Town Manager to Develop Boat Access Plan

MASHPEE – New Town Manager Rodney Collins attended a Mashpee Waterways Commission recently in support of developing a “comprehensive boat access plan.”

Collins cited increasingly harsh winter weather as an impetus to monitor repairs on what he called one of the town’s most crucial assets.

“We have people paying mooring fees, people relying heavily on our waterways,” he said. “We want to inspect the pilings, the docks, the ramps, and make sure that if there is any need for maintenance, that there is a plan.”

At the meeting last month, he invited members of the Waterways Commission, Department of Public Works and Harbormaster’s Office to go on a tour of at least five boat landings.

Included on that list is the Great River boat ramp, which Collins said may need to be widened.

Additionally, Collins said, adding wooden signs to make boat ramps more welcoming may be in order.

Collins said he hopes to have a plan in place within a few months, and “certainly within a year.”
