New Movie Will Be Based on Sherman Book

HYANNIS – A local author will see another one of his books turned into a feature film.

Two Hollywood producers have acquired the rights to Casey Sherman’s 2013 bestseller Animal: The Bloody Rise and Fall of the Mob’s Most Feared Assassin.

The story details the life of Boston crime figure Joe “The Animal” Barboza.

The movie, titled Thacher Island, will be written by Charlie Wachtel and David Rabinowitz, who recently produced the Spike Lee-directed film BlacKkKlansman.

Sherman’s book The Finest Hours about the 1952 Coast Guard small boat rescue of the crew of the SS Pendelton off of Chatham was turned into a movie by Disney in 2016.

Sherman is a Hyannis native.
