SANDWICH – The Sandwich Chamber of Commerce is $15,000 short of their goal of reaching $60,000 in 60 days to fund a new Visitors Center.

The Chamber has a GoGundMe account online and donation jars spread throughout town to raise the money, but are still short of their goal.

The $60,000 in 60 days campaign ends on July 31, which is before the land lease expires on August 1.

Sandwich Chamber Executive Director Jay Pateakos said a new Visitors Center is important to the community.

“This visitors center isn’t just for the Chamber, it’s for everyone. It’s providing a welcoming center that the whole town would be proud of, and that’s what we aim to do by the end of the month,” said Pateakos.

The Chamber is hosting a golf fundraiser next Thursday at the Holly Ridge Golf Club to help to reach their goal.

Chamber officials are also selling Sandwich Visitors Center boardwalk planks for $1,000 each.

Pateakos said they can’t keep using the current center.

“The problem with that facility is it’s so small, we have a port-a-potty out back. It’s not the greatest of images to give, like ‘Welcome to Sandwich. Here’s a port-a-potty for you as a bathroom facility,’” said Pateakos.

Pateakos added that more information and an update on the campaign will be revealed at tonight’s selectmen’ meeting.

Donation checks can be made to the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce or the Sandwich Legacy Foundation and can be mailed to PO Box 744, Sandwich, MA 02563.
