BARNSTABLE – Over the last 20 weeks, the Cape Light Compact has been retrofitting streetlights in 16 Cape Towns and Fire Districts with high efficiency L-E-D fixtures.
Now that the work is done, significant savings will be realized, according to the Compact’s Kevin Galligan, he said that the cumulative annual savings in the towns and Fire District will be about eight hundred thousand dollars.
The streetlight project is part of the Compact’s 2013-2015 Statewide Energy Efficiency Plan, where the installation of these types of fixtures will use about seventy percent less energy than conventional bulbs.
The annual energy savings is about three million kilowatts which will also keep about two thousand metric tons of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.
