New Support Group Formed

Hyannisport- Eighty women gathered Wednesday at the Hyannisport club, they were there in support of a new group launched by the Cape and Islands United Way.

The new effort, dubbed Women United, will focus on raising money to assist children and families on the Cap and Islands.

Barbara Milligan, the Executive Director of the local United Way, says they are putting women together to help save the world.

“When a child is born, we look for the best ways to support them. To give them the social, emotional and language skills that will help them thrive.” Milligan said.

The group hopes to raise about two hundred thousand dollars over the next year to put toward the effort. The goal is also to galvanize volunteers to help with its mission.

A speaker at Wednesday’s event, Cindy Horgan, Director of Cape Cod’s Children’s Place in Eastham, said they want to “Start at the beginning, nurturing and supporting children ages zero to three along with their parents, in order to get upstream of our community challenges.”
