New Trivia Contest Counts Down to Lighting of Pilgrim Monument

KA_Provincetown_Pilgrim Monument Lighting_Ptown_Holiday Christmas Lights_11251526PROVINCETOWN – The countdown to the lighting of the Pilgrim Monument the night before Thanksgiving is underway with a new history trivia contest.

The new Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum trivia contest aims to raise awareness that the Pilgrims first landed in the New World in Provincetown.

The contest, which kicked off Wednesday, will be featured on the monument’s Twitter and Facebook pages and will post weekly trivia questions for the public to answer.

Individuals who are the first to answer correctly will win a one-year “Neighborhood Membership” to the monument and museum which allows the member to bring a guest for each visit and 10 percent off in the gift shop.

A new trivia question will be posted every Wednesday on the monument’s Twitter page leading up to the lighting on November 23.

The annual lighting of the monument commemorates the first landfall of the Pilgrims in Provincetown Harbor where they spent five weeks on board the Mayflower and signed the Mayflower Compact before sailing to Plymouth.

The lighting event is the kick-off to the holiday season on the Outer Cape and leads into Thanksgiving weekend.
