BARNSTABLE – Thirty-two new Americorps of Cape Cod members will be sworn in by Barnstable County Commissioners this month on the steps of the Superior Courthouse.
Chair Sheila Lyons, Vice Chair Mary Pat Flynn and Leo Cakounes will perform the swearing in of the 18th corps on October 19.
The members will spend the next 11 months, or 1,700 hours, apiece working to address the disaster-preparedness and environmental needs of Cape Cod.
They will perform such tasks as shellfish propagation, herring run clearing, wildland fuel reduction, dolphin stranding response, coastal erosion control, invasive species removal and more, and will serve a combined $1,000,000 of work to the county.
