Newcomer Kanzer Wins Democratic Nomination in 2nd Barnstable District

_KA_2__Cape Faces_Political Roast with Matt Pitta_St Paticks Day_Irish Roast_Jake Rooneys_Harwichport_031216_164COTUIT – A political newcomer won the Democratic primary in the 2nd Barnstable District Thursday.

Aaron Kanzer, 21, of Cotuit, comfortably defeated Barnstable School Committee chair Margeaux Weber, 1,509 to 992.

“I’m speechless and humbled,” Kanzer said following his victory. “We kept working as hard as possible, we were just relentless, and we just kept pushing a positive message of how we look for ways to improve the community and help those in the community.”

This is the first campaign the recent graduate of Northeastern University has run. Kanzer said he knocked on so many doors over the summer that he lost count by the end.

“To get to that point where people have that confidence in you, it’s an incredibly humbling experience,” Kanzer added. “I hope to not let any of them down.”

Kanzer, a Barnstable High School graduate and member of the Barnstable Housing Authority, now faces Barnstable Town Councilor Will Crocker in the general election November 8. Crocker was unopposed in the Republican primary.

Incumbent State Rep. Brian Mannal (D-Centerville) is not seeking re-election.

The 2nd Barnstable District consists of most of the town of Barnstable and two precincts in Yarmouth.
