Nantucket Historical Association Acquires New Items

NANTUCKET–The Nantucket Historical Association (NHA) has acquired three items for its Permanent Collection.

Milo Calkin’s memoir recounting his time aboard the “Independence” whaling ship, a tooth from Albert C. Gardner, and a painting from William John Huggins entitled “Northern Whale Fishery” all join the NHA’s archives.

The acquisitions complete a year of the NHA investing in its collection. The association was able to acquire these artifacts thanks to the support of local donors. The NHA aims to preserve and interpret Nantucket’s history and promote the island’s significance.
