Hundreds of Motorcycle Riders Roll Across Cape Cod for Big Nick’s Ride

YARMOUTH – Hundreds motorcycle riders hit the streets of Cape Cod Sunday for the annual Big Nick’s Ride for the Fallen.

The ride is held in honor of Nicholas Xiarhos, a U.S. Marine who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2009, and the 15 other Cape Codders who have died serving our country since 9/11.

“It is something that has grown to really be the most patriotic event on Cape Cod and the Islands, we feel. It ties everything together. The intent of the ride is to honor the young men and women who went off to war and did not return,” said Steven Xiarhos, Deputy Yarmouth Police Chief and Gold Star Father.

Riders began the trek in Bourne and made their way to the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School.

Along the route — hundreds waved flags and showed their support for the fallen.

“Being on the side of the road as a supporter, it is very emotional,” said Xiarhos.

All proceeds benefit the Nicholas G. Xiarhos Foundation, which supports local military families, veterans, and a scholarship at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School, Nick’s alma mater.
