No Word on When Buzzards Bay Park ‘Splash Pad’ Will Re-Open

BOURNE- It’s been over a month since the July 10th accident where a 2 year old toddler suffered severe injuries to an appendage, on a Buzzards Bay Park slide.

Since that incident, survey crews and town officials have been investigating ways to make the ‘Splash Pad’ section of the park safer, but the process is taking longer than residents, and visitors have anticipated.

During a recent presentation to the Town’s Board of Selectmen, Town Administrator Tom Guerino stated;

“This is frustrating report to give since we are not open at this point. There are a number of reasons, most are now being addressed by Council and our Project Manager, in an effort to try to determine the best method, and the quickest way that we can get the park re-opened.”

According to recent reports, Guerino has dismissed claims that the town will close the attraction indefinitely, due to water conservation efforts.

“This has nothing to do with water use, this has to do with the ability to be sure that when the issue at hand is addressed, and the park is re-opened, that there are not any additional safety concerns that we need to be looking at,” says Guerino.

No word yet on when the official re-opening will take place, but officials are stressing that every second that the park is closed, it is giving them critical time to oversee how improvements can be made.

“While we have had the opportunity, we are really doing a deep-dive into making sure that things in the park are going to be positive for the long term,” he added.

As for the victim of the slide accident there has been no word on her current condition.
