HYANNIS – NOAA Fisheries is celebrating National Seafood Month, and the head of the agency is highlighting the importance of the Blue Economy on the future of the seafood industry.
In a message posted on the agency’s website, Chris Oliver says the agency-wide initiative touches three key areas that are important to the fishing industry, including regulatory reforms, international seafood marketing and trade, and expanding aquaculture.
Oliver says the goals of these actions are to increase the economic value and production of domestic fisheries and chip away at the $15 billion seafood trade deficit.
