BARNSTABLE – NOAA Fisheries is increasing the target level for at-sea monitoring on groundfish trips in 2017.

The target level is being set at 16 percent, which is a 2 percent increase from 2016 levels.

NOAA says federal reimbursements will continue this year but lower rates are expected.

At-sea monitors collect data to help determine future fishing quotas and can cost about $800 per day.
