HYANNIS – The latest unemployment numbers are continuing to show a strong job market for the Cape and Islands.
Barnstable County saw the unemployment rate for the month of November drop from 6.4 percent to 6 percent from November of last year.
“We have a higher percentage of our workforce at work and that’s always a good thing,” said Cape and Islands Workforce Investment Board Executive Director David Augustinho.
Numbers in November 2015 continued to drop from those in November 2014 for Plymouth, Nantucket, Dukes and Bristol Counties.
Plymouth went from 5.2 percent to 4.7 percent, Nantucket dropped 6.2 percent to 5.2 percent, Dukes declined from 8.2 percent to 7.6 percent, and Bristol went from 6.1 percent to 5.5 percent last month.
There still continues to be a labor force shortage in Barnstable County, with a drop from just over 109,400 in November of last year to 107,400 last month.
“That’s something that we’re aware of and we’re trying to work with businesses to help them be able to find perhaps some more non-traditional labor pools that they can access,” said Augustinho.
