NSTAR Tones Down Lights at the Canal

Nstar Outage MapBOURNEDALE – NSTAR, working in conjunction with the Federal Aviation Administration, addressed concerns from neighbors about the lighting on the new monopoles installed at the Cape Cod Canal.

Neighbors objected to lights that had been installed on the towers, saying they were intrusive and distracting.

NSTAR spokesman Mike Durand says the company was pleasantly surprised by the FAA’s quick response to the matter and changes to the lights have already been made.

“So what we’ve done is is completely eliminated the brighter white lights and we’ve taken one set of the lights at the very top and left those flashing, and the bottom two are now totally red all the time,” Durand said.

Neighbors were most concerned with strobing and the brightness of the lights. Durand said the company is still working with the FAA to make additional changes.
