Oak Bluffs Seeks Army Corps Permit for Rock Revetment

OAK BLUFFS – A Martha’s Vineyard town is seeking a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to rehabilitate and expand a deteriorated stone revetment.

The project is along the northeastern shoreline off East Chop Drive in Oak Bluffs and involves the addition of more than 11,000 cubic yards of rip rap material over a 34,500-square-foot area below the high tide line to help mitigate future erosion of the bluff.

A majority of the proposed rehab work will occur within the historic and existing footprint of the revetment.

The decision whether to issue a permit for the work will be based on an evaluation of the probable impact of the project on the public interest.

The Army Corps will accept public comment on the project through May 2.

Public comment can be mailed to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District, Regulatory Division (ATTN: Mike Wierbonics), 696 Virginia Road, Concord, MA 01742-2751.

Additional information is available from Permit Project Manager Mike Wierbonics at 800-343-4789 or 800-362-4367 (if calling from within Massachusetts) or by emailing [email protected].
