Ocean Effect Snow Delivers Light Coating on Cape Cod

HYANNIS – Ocean effect snow continued to impact Cape Cod and portions of the South Shore Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service extended a winter weather advisory through 10 a.m. with the possibility of another 1-to-2 inches of snow.

It began falling around midday Monday, icing over sections of Rte. 3 between Plymouth and Norwell by late afternoon, causing multiple accidents that jammed the highway. No significant problems were reported on Cape Cod.

Bourne Public Schools were on a 1 hour delay Tuesday, while Sandwich Public Schools were on a 2 hour delay.

Both the Steamship Authority and the HyLine ferry lines cancelled their early morning runs between Hyannis and Nantucket and expected to be on a boat-by-boat basis throughout the day.

The snow showers are expected to end by early afternoon.

The temperatures dropped significantly between Monday and early Tuesday, with single digits reports in the Boston area and lower 20’s across Cape Cod. A gale warning was also in effect for the morning.
