BOSTON (AP) — Secretary of State William Galvin says by the end of Election Day he expects that more than 3 million Massachusetts voters will have cast ballots.
That includes the more than 1 million who voted during the state’s first-ever early voting period that ended last Friday. Galvin said Monday that early voting exceeded expectations.
The state’s top elections official said overall turnout in Massachusetts should rival the last two presidential elections in 2008 and 2012, despite the absence of many hotly-contested local races.
Polling hours statewide are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
While he doesn’t anticipate problems, Galvin says interference with voters’ privacy at polling places won’t be tolerated.
The state has about 4.5 million registered voters, though some are considered inactive because they haven’t voted in several years.
