Officials: No Obvious Evidence of Arson in Barn Fire

HOLLISTON, Mass. (AP) — Officials say the initial investigation into a barn fire that killed dozens of animals in a Boston suburb has turned up no obvious evidence of arson.

Jennifer Mieth, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Fire Services, tells the Boston Globe that investigators conducted a partial scene examination at the Holliston barn on Tuesday.

The Animal Rescue League of Boston says about 60 animals, including chickens, rabbits and pigs, were inside the barn when it caught fire early Sunday. Nineteen survived and are in the group’s care.

Three surviving piglets are receiving care at the ARL’s Brewster shelter. Officials say the piglets are doing well.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. Mieth says investigators will continue examining the scene when all the animal remains have been removed.
