Officials Touting Success of Inaugural Jet Blue Season

jet blue01BARNSTABLE – The inaugural season of Jet Blue service from New York City to Cape Cod wraps up next week, and local officials say the service has been a big success.

Flights have been consistently 85 to 90 percent full all summer, according to Barnstable Airport Manager Bud Breault. He said those statistics point to Jet Blue returning next year.

“The numbers are certainly there. They’ve always said that they don’t enter a market lightly and that they normally don’t abandon a market once they’ve started it. So we hope that they’re here to stay”

Breault also said he hopes Jet Blue will expand its service next year.

“We would love to see five to six months straight, at least one flight a day, and then perhaps more, and also perhaps one or two extra flights during the week, maybe on a Friday or a Monday.”

The last flight of the season departs September 9; a send-off ceremony will be held to celebrate this year’s service.
