FALMOUTH – Cape Cod curling enthusiasts will get the chance to rub shoulders, and throw rocks, with one of the best players in the world this month.
Olympian Tyler George will bring his Olympic Celebration Tour to the Cape Cod Curling Club in Falmouth from March 14 to 16.
“It’s huge and it’s very exciting. What happens is the World Curling Federation, in an effort to continually grow the sport and bring people’s attention to it, puts together this Olympic celebration tour after every Olympics,” Curling Club member Jeanie Yaroch explained.
“But of course, this year the U.S. Men’s team won gold in 2018, it’s never been done before, so there’s energy and more excitement around that.”
Participants can benefit from George’s expertise by choosing between two Learn to Curl sessions on Saturday, March 16, at the Cape Cod Curling Club. One session runs from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and another from 2:00 p.m. through 4:00 p.m.
Additionally, a special two-hour Introduction to Curling clinic for ages 8 through 18 will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16. In all sessions, George will be available for teaching, conversation and pictures with his gold medal.
The cost of a session for adults is $35 while youth participants pay $25. Each clinic will begin with a brief introduction and overview. Participants will then go on the ice to learn the basics of curling.
Those attending should plan to wear loose-fitting clothing so they can move easily. Warm layers are recommended and clean athletic shoes should be worn with warm socks. All curling equipment will be supplied.
The Cape Cod Curling Club, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. It is located at 37 Highfield Dr. in Falmouth.
