NANTUCKET – An island initiative to get everyone to read, discuss and reflect on the same book has returned to Nantucket.

One Book One Island is a project to promote reading, literacy and community.

This year’s book is “The Invention of Wings” by Sue Monk Kidd. Set in Charleston, South Carolina in the early 1800s, “The Invention of Wings” is a story about the search for freedom and empowerment of two women.

Free copies of the book are currently available at Annye’s Whole Foods, Bookworks, Mitchell’s Book Corner, Nantucket Atheneum, Nantucket Cottage Hospital, Nantucket Dreamland, Nantucket Historical Association and Nantucket Inquirer & Mirror.

Community events will be held from March 11th to the 20th.

The program was made possible by a special grant from the Tupancy-Harris Foundation and the Nantucket Cultural Council.
