One Dead, One Injured in Route 6 Crash This Morning

SANDWICH – One person is dead and one severely injured after a two-car crash on Route 6 this morning.

The crash happened in the westbound lane of the Mid Cape Highway at exit 4.

According to a press release from State Police from the Bourne Barracks, they responded to a call about the crash at 6:20 a.m.

Information collected in the investigation by Trooper Nathan Monteiro indicates that Michael Dalto, 45, of East Bridgewater was traveling on Route 6 East in a 2002 Ford F350 pickup truck when his vehicle crossed over the median, striking a 2005 Honda Accord, which was traveling on Route 6 westbound.

The 32-year-old male operator of the Accord, Lawrence Barros of Centerville, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Dalto was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by Sandwich EMS for treatment of minor injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.

No charges have been filed at this time.  Also assisting at the scene were Sandwich Fire and Mass Department of Transportation officials.

Route 6 West was closed at exit 4 for approximately 3 hours.
