COURTESY OF THE CAPE COD COMMISSION: Mashpee Selectmen Andrew Gottlieb, who also serves as the executive director of the Association to Preserve Cape Cod, right, is presented a OneCape Award last week in Hyannis during the OneCape Summit.

HYANNIS – A Mashpee selectman and a local environmental organization were presented awards last week during the OneCape Summit in Hyannis.

Andrew Gottlieb, who serves as the executive director of the Association to Preserve Cape Cod, and the Pleasant Bay Alliance were recognized for their leadership and dedication to improve water quality in the region.

Gottlieb, who is also the former executive director of the Cape Cod Water Protection Collaborative, was praised for his contribution to defining the region’s nitrogen problem.

“The progress made in awareness, resources and movement to action is in no small part attributable to Andrew’s work as director of the Collaborative and his unrivaled understanding of government process,” said Paul Niedzwiecki, the executive director of the Cape Cod Commission.

The Alliance is an organization formed by the towns of Orleans, Chatham, Harwich and Brewster to coordinate the resource management plan for the Pleasant Bay watershed’s Area of Critical Environmental Concern designation made in 1987. The alliance formed in 1998.

The Alliance’s projects, programs and studies promote healthy natural resources and safe public access throughout Pleasant Bay.
