EASTHAM – The Open Doorway of Cape Cod will be holding its first circus-themed Tag Sale Fundraiser Event and Candlelight Vigil on Saturday.

The event takes place at the Eastham United Methodist Church and runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Tag sale items include T-shirts, hoodies, hats, wrist bands and tote bags.

There will be hot dogs for sale as well as a popcorn machine, games, prizes, a silent auction, face-painting and cotton candy.

The Open Doorway of Cape Cod is a grassroots organization whose mission is to provide those on Cape Cod suffering from or affected by addiction a judgement-free place to come for help. It helps support those seeking help and rehabilitation both emotionally and financially.

Open Doorway founder Rachel Tinney has a personal connection to addiction.

“My brother died in December of last year from a heroin overdose, so it was very tragic and unexpected and my mother and I a few close friends decided we wanted to do something so that his death was not in vain,” said Tinney.

The organization is made up of Cape residents from all walks of life, including health care providers, educators and community leaders.

Tinney said there is a reason for an increase in those addicted to drugs on the Cape.

“The dealers out there are targeting our young people,” said Tinney. “They’re targeting the teenagers and the young twenties. That’s exactly what they’re going for.”
