Open House Held for New Dennis Senior Center

DENNIS-  The Town of Dennis Council on Aging held a Community Open House along with a groundbreaking ceremony Friday for construction of the new wing of the senior center.

“We are going to be starting with renovations… and get the building up to code… by that time we will have selected a contractor for the new addition so we are expecting to have our new fitness facility in there, multi-function room, a ball room, new adult day center facility, the congregate dining facility, we plan to do many, many things,” says Brenda Vasquez, Council on Aging Director.

Vasquez says that these new renovations could not have come at a better time due to the growing number of ‘baby boomers’ getting into their later years of life but the town is up for the challenge; “pretty soon here we are going to have a very fast growing over 80 population, with the baby boomers becoming 65. In Dennis that number is staggering and we are nearing half the population of being older, but it doesn’t mean that life stops. That’s when you actually need to stay active and engage, finding meaning and service in our lives, and so this center will provide those opportunities,” says Vasquez.

In addition to the groundbreaking, the event featured Reiki demonstrations, music, aromatherapy, giveaways, information about programs and services from across Dennis, continental breakfast, lunch, and more.
