Operation Backpack Still in Need of Donations for Military Families

HYANNIS – Students across the Cape will be returning to school in the coming days, many without the supplies that they need to get them through the year.

The Cape Cod Military Support Foundation is reminding the community that it is not too late to make a contribution to their Operation Backpack to Support Massachusetts Military Families.

“The reality is that back to school time can be a burden on many families – especially those who have to provide school supplies and clothing for more than one child in their household,” explained Cape Cod Military Support Foundation President and CEO Don Cox.

The local non-profit has led the annual campaign with a goal of providing backpacks filled with school supplies and distributing them to the children of active duty members of the military, National Guard and Coast Guard.

“Ensuring these kids are armed for success with the basic tools and supplies they need for the school year is just one small way that we can show our support,” said Cox.

“They deserve no less than the best.”

The organization works to distribute several thousand backpacks ahead of each school year, and is well behind their goal.
