‘Operation Reel Heroes’ Casts Out Dates For Next Outing to Benefit Veterans

YARMOUTH-  Dates have been set for the annual ‘Operation Reel Heroes’ event in Yarmouth, which is comprised of boaters and fisherman who each year volunteer their boats, and time, to give thanks by honoring veterans.

For June 8th & Saturday, June 9th, ORH will host more than 60 veterans and a guest of their choosing, fishing on more than 45 boats out of the Bass River.

“We get to spend some really beautiful time with the veterans… and… give back to [them] for something that they really need,” says Art Johnson, Event Organizer.

The organization is now accepting boats who would like to take a vet out fishing for the day out of Bass River.

“We break it down to about two to four people per boat, and the nice thing about that is we get to actually enjoy the day with the veterans, we get to actually become friends with them, hear their stories, listen to their stories… as opposed to going out in one big group,… it goes a long way,” says Johnson.

Event organizers say that knowledge of the area is not needed, but they do ask captains to bring a mate with them to help accommodate the veterans.
