NEW BEDFORD – The Buzzards Bay Coalition and Southcoast Health have joined forces to promote healthy, active outdoor recreation and exploration of the southeastern Massachusetts coast through a new initiative.
Discover Buzzards Bay is a resource that can be used by local residents and visitors to find ways to explore the outdoors, get exercise and connect with nature.
Residents can find new trails to walk, bike routes to cycle, waterways to paddle or shellfish beds to dig.
Discover Buzzards Bay aims to get people outside to discover woods, wetlands and waterways from Fall River to Wareham.
Outdoor events, ideas for new activities to try and information about more than 100 public parks, trails, beaches and boat launches can be found at the Discover Buzzards Bay online portal at savebuzzardsbay.org/discover.
Discover Buzzards Bay hopes to grow over the next few years to include more than 300 places, activities and adventures.
As part of the initiative, the coalition and Southcoast Health will also lead a series of monthly walks called “Sunday Strolls” on trails along the South Coast. The first stroll will be held December 4 from 10 to 11 a.m. at William Minot Forest in Wareham.
