Orleans Announces Tentative ORV Closures

ORLEANS – Officials in Orleans have announced details on upcoming ORV closures at Nauset Beach.

Beginning June 7 at 6 a.m., Nauset Beach South will be closed due to unfledged piping plover chicks. Chatham North Beach south of Exit 6 will be closed on June 5 at 7 a.m.

Both closures are tentatively scheduled.

No plans to shut down Nauset Spit have been announced at this time.

Town officials say the presence of the endangered shorebirds may also force them to close down Callanan’s Pass by mid-June.

Orleans implemented a first-of-its-kind habitat conservation plan in 2015, allowing for increased beach access during piping plover season.
