ORLEANS – The Orleans Fire Department battled a brush fire off of Hayward Lane in East Orleans Monday afternoon.
Orleans firefighters responded to the scene around 2:30 p.m.
According to Cap. Tim Gula, the majority of the 3/4 acre fire was knocked down within 10 minutes of the departments arrival.
The fire started in beach grass down by the water and spread up hill.
There were no injuries reported but a paddle board and two kayaks were destroyed.
Fire crews from Brewster, Eastham and the National Seashore assisted the Orleans Fire Department at the scene and Harwich covered the station.
Crews remained on scene for about two hours to overhaul the area.
Boaters passing the area called to report the fire.
