ORLEANS – The Orleans Historical Society will celebrate 125 years of baseball in town with an event this weekend.
The group is opening an exhibit called “Play Ball! 125 years of Baseball in Orleans,” on Saturday at the Orleans Historical Society Meeting House on River Road. It will explore the history of the town’s role in America’s pastime.
Visitors will learn about the origins of organized baseball in Orleans, starting with the Snow Pants Factory team in the 1890s and running until the present day Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
The unveiling is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will include an appearance by current Orleans Firebirds players.
