Orleans Proposes Implementing Beach Sticker Fee for Town Residents

ORLEANS – The Town of Orleans is proposing a new resident beach parking sticker this year.

Earlier this month, selectmen came to no decision on implementing a sticker system for beach parking, including a $25 sticker for tax payers. Instead, selectmen recommended increasing fees in several other departments.

“If we had a fee structure in place, not necessarily some type concrete number, but even if it was a flexible number, that we could meet a lot of new challenges and goals by charging the participants – both adults and seniors citizens, and the parents that have youth in our programs by offering a lot more for our youth, adults, and senior citizens by expanding our programs,” suggested Orleans Recreation Director Alan Harrison.

Orleans residents currently access the beach for free while stickers already implemented in Chatham and Harwich cost $25 and $30 respectively.

“We estimate that we can raise about $33,000 based upon our current, not even our broadened programs, but our current programs,” said Orleans DPW and Natural Resources Director Tom Daley.

Town Administrator John Kelly has requested department heads across the town to review all municipal fees and to compare them with other Cape towns.
