Orleans Town Meeting Approves Funding for New Police Station

ORLEANS –  Orleans took the first step toward building a new police station Monday night, as town meeting voters approved spending $11.5 million to replace their current aging facility.

The money still needs final approval at the ballot box on May 17.

Orleans residents also approved a $32 million operating budget for the next fiscal year and just over $3 million to fund repairs to the bulkhead at Rock Harbor.

A recent examination of the structure determined the bolts that go through the steel plates and into the ground are rusting and failing.

The harbor will remain open during the summer, with major repairs expected this fall.

Town meeting voters also approved $900,000 for a public works building. The regular and special town meeting warrants were completed in one night.
