Osterville Family Donates $500,000 to Fall River Diocese

OSTERVILLE – The Fall River Diocese has received a $500,000 donation to fund a Wi-Fi Readiness Project for its Catholic schools.

The donation from the John Dawley family of Osterville is the largest non-scholarship contribution to the Foundation for the Advancement of Catholic Education of the Fall River Diocese.

The goal of the Wi-Fi Readiness Initiative is to ensure that students, faculty and staff of Catholic schools in the Fall River Diocese have reliable access to internet service to support the expanded use of technology in classrooms.

“Funding the Wi-Fi and the Diocese will enable 6,000 students to get some start on understanding the new world and education,” said John Dawley.

A private luncheon was held by the benefactors of the Diocese on Wednesday at the Oyster Harbors Country Club in Osterville, where Bishop Edgar da Cunha acknowledged the gift.

“I think these children are going to benefit so much from education and for the future because we know that’s the way the world is going,” said da Cunha.
