Outer Cape Forum to Feature Democratic State Senate Candidates

State Rep. Sarah Peake will moderate a forum for Democratic Cape and Islands State Senate candidates

TRURO – The Democratic candidates running for the Cape and Islands State Senate will be in Truro on Saturday to talk about local issues.

The Outer Cape Democratic Coalition is holding the candidates forum at 11 a.m. at the Truro Community Center.

The democratic candidates running for the seat are Barnstable County Commissioner Sheila Lyons, State Representative Brian Mannal and Julian Cyr, the former Director of Policy and Regulatory Affairs for the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Health.

The candidates will answer questions on issues that include the closure of the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth, the Cape’s opiate crisis, affordable housing, climate change, the minimum wage, the expansion of charter schools and tax reform.

The forum will be moderated by State Representative Sarah Peake.

The event is free and open to the public.

Current Cape and Islands State Senator Dan Wolf is not seeking re-election.

Brewster Selectman, and democrat, Ben deRuyter dropped out of the race last month.

The republican candidates running for the seat are James Crocker, an Osterville real estate agent, and former Ashland Town Manager Anthony Schiavi.

The state primary elections are September 8.
