WELLFLEET – A non-profit organization that works to create opportunities for people to live and work on the Outer Cape is looking for homeowners in need of repairs.

The Community Development Partnership’s Housing Rehabilitation Program is designed to improve the homes of qualified property owners in Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown with 0 percent interest, deferred payment loans up to $35,000.

“Homeowners are able to use these funds to perhaps put on a new roof or if they need a new well, or septic upgrade, or perhaps new windows, better isulation and energy efficiency improvements,” said Jay Coburn, the executive director of the Community Development Partnership.

Other repairs include electrical and plumbing, lead paint and asbestos removal.

“The program is designed to help low to moderate income homeowners maintain their homes and preserve affordable homes of the Outer Cape for a long time to come,” Coburn said.

To be eligible for the program, homeowners must be year round residents, be in good standing with federal, state and local taxes, carry homeowners insurance and earn at or below 80 percent of the area median income.

One fifteenth of the assistance received each year is forgiven each year the homeowner continues to own and live in the home.

“So as long as the homeowner stays in their home for 15 years the loan is converted into a grant,” Coburn said.

Another benefit from the program is that local contractors are hired to provide the work.

“These funds get re-circulated in the economy by keeping contractors at work,” Coburn said.

Anyone interested in more information can contact Jean Stanley at the CDP by phone at 508-240-7873 extension 14 or by email at [email protected].

An informational session will be held Friday, December 2 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Wellfleet Council on Aging.
