EASTHAM – Henry Beston’s “Outermost House” is a piece of American literature which is considered a seminal work of contemporary environmental movements and several events will be held throughout the summer to showcase artists inspire by the book.

The book is based on Beston’s time in a 20 x 16 home on the dunes of Eastham where he studied and observed the elements and setting.

Outermost Inspirations is a multi-media, multi-venue endeavor featuring contemporary artists celebrating the natural world.

Saturday, June 30 will be full of Outermost Inspirations events.

From 8 a.m. through noon residents and visitors can watch artists at work on Samoset Road in Eastham and other locations around town. The artists will be available to answer questions and discuss their techniques as they create.

Author Don Wilding, the writer of “Henry Beston’s Cape Cod” and “A Brief History of Eastham,” will take a closer look at the town and the experiences of Beston with a discussion from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Eastham Public Library.

Visitors can then stay at the Library for an artist’s reception for the works created earlier in the morning around town. The reception is from 2 to 4 p.m.
