Over 80 Colleges Create Website to Ease Application Process

collegeBOSTON (AP) — More than 80 universities are promising to revamp the application process and make it easier for students and families.

As part of a new coalition, the schools said they will create a website where students will be able to apply to many schools and get feedback on their applications from teachers and counselors. Some colleges will start using the website as early as summer 2016.

Some of the top names in higher-education have signed on, including Harvard and Yale and public schools such as the University of Florida.

For years, researchers have said that complex applications are a barrier for low-income and minority students. The coalition says its new system aims to guide students through the process and help them create an online portfolio to display their academic achievements.
