Over $80,000 Raised during HAC’s Annual Holiday Telethon

HYANNIS – More than $80,000 was raised during Housing Assistance Corporation’s (HAC) 15th annual holiday telethon, which was held last Thursday.

The money will go towards all of HAC’s housing programs on Cape Cod and the Islands, including its four family shelters, its homeless outreach efforts, homeless prevention program and its Housing Consumer Education Center.

Over $70,000 was raised during HAC’s annual holiday telethon last year.

On a yearly basis, HAC helps more than 200 families in their shelters.

“It’s from donations like the ones that we received that really make sure we can continue to do our work and thrive, and help our clients thrive and live the life they want to live,” said CEO Alisa Galazzi.

The telethon was held at the Cape Cod Community Media Center in Dennis Port and new this year was a satellite location at Cape Cod Beer incorporated into the event, allowing guests to watch the telethon on the brewery’s big screen.

Catherine Baker, HAC’s Assistant Director of Development, said that she was thrilled to see the community come together for a great cause.

“We have individuals out in the cold, we have individuals in our shelters and our clients need so much hope this time of year and the fact that these people are able to come together, restores everyone’s faith in humanity, that our community can do amazing things,” said Baker.

The two and a half hour long event aired on public access channels 98 and 99 and streamed live on Facebook and the Cape Cod Community Media Center website.

“This is an effort for Housing Assistance Corporation not only to gather our supporters, our sponsors,” said Baker. “Our corporate sponsors mean the world to us and the work they’re able to do for our organization and giving hope to those in need and engaging our community.”

Established more than 40 years ago, HAC provides emergency shelter and homelessness prevention assistance for individuals and families; administration of the largest housing subsidy program in our region; and family self-sufficiency and employment services.
