CHATHAM – Pleasant Bay Community Boating (PBCB) will present a two-part “Plastics and an Imperiled Planet” event in Chatham on March 4 to highlight the issue of plastics in our oceans and their harmful effects on marine ecosystems and human health.
Part One, The Global Problem, will take place from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Chatham Orpheum.
An award-winner which has sold out in every U.S. city where it has appeared, the film reveals the devastating impact of our disposable lifestyle on marine and human life the world over.
“A Plastic Ocean” was filmed in 20 locations worldwide to document the global effects of plastic pollution and to introduce workable technology and policy solutions that can, if implemented in time, change things for the better.
From 11:30-12:30, there will be a Skyped Q&A with film producer Jo Ruxton in London.
Tickets are $18 for adults, $10 for children 11 and under and are available at chathamorpheum.org.
Part Two, What You Can Do, will take place from 1:30-3 p.m. at the Chatham Eldredge Library.
There will be a free panel discussion featuring Cape Cod plastic reduction and marine debris experts.
Attendees will learn what scientists, activists, businesses, municipalities and school children are doing to address the problem at local, regional and state levels, and how they can make incremental changes in their individual lives.
