BOURNE – Several permits were approved by the Bourne Board of Health recently that will allow the new Hampton Inn in Buzzards Bay to open to customers.

The board granted permits to operate a 100-room hotel all year, to operate a swimming pool, and to operate a 48-seat eatery, which will only serve breakfast to guests.

The new hotel will be located on Kendall Rae Place off Perry Avenue in downtown Buzzards Bay.

“To have a hotel on the Cape Cod Canal with the views in the summer time will hopefully get people to flock to it and stay here to have an opportunity to go up and down the bike path, go to Plymouth for the day, Cape Cod, Hyannis, Provincetown and maybe over to the islands,” said David Darling, the CEO of Darling Hotels, which owns the new hotel.

An opening date for the hotel has not been announced.

Darling said he hopes the facility will spark development in Buzzards Bay.

“Hopefully it will bring some restaurants and some different stores and things like that,” Darling said.

Darling thinks Buzzards Bay has a great Main Street with its sidewalks, new park, the train bridge and more.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for people to come and experience a different part of Cape Cod, that’s not quite on Cape Cod, but has a lot to offer,” he said.

The Hampton Inn will feature views of the canal, a swimming pool, complimentary Wi-Fi, a 24-hour business center and fitness center.

Darling said the property is not one his company plans on flipping and will seek to provide jobs for local residents.
