SOUTH YARMOUTH – A two-week photography show at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod will be taking visitors around the world.

Julia Cumes’ Uncommon Journeys is a collection of photographs in far-flung places from Burma to the Sahara Desert, Kenya, India and beyond. The show will run from Monday through July 11.

The collection captures quiet moments of beauty with an emphasis on light and the “decisive moment.”

“With this collection of images, I hope to present viewers with a version of the world they may not otherwise see and engage them in dialog about this extraordinary and vulnerable planet we live on and how important its preservation is,” said Cumes.

An opening reception for the show will be held Monday at 6 p.m. and will include a talk by Cumes, who will present a slideshow of her work and discuss her recent experience teaching photography to tribal Samburu women in a remote region of Kenya.

The reception is $5 per person and includes drinks and snacks.

The Cultural Center of Cape Cod is on Old Main Street in South Yarmouth.
