Pile Driving Work Underway in Yarmouth for Rail Trail Extension

YARMOUTH – The second phase of the Cape Cod Rail Trail extension project through Yarmouth is in the pile driving stage of construction.

Activity is expected over the next few weeks from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. The project includes an at-grade crossing at North Main Street and a new trail to the Bass River Bridge just south of Route 6.

The bridge will not only serve as a pedestrian bridge for the Cape Cod Rail Trail, but will also assist in tidal restoration.

The existing 60-foot-wide bridge will be widened to match the 160-foot opening underneath Route 6.

The wider opening will improve the ecosystem of the upper Bass River, along with improving navigation by deepening the channel and reducing water velocities under the bridge.
