PLYMOUTH – The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is set to begin an extensive inspection of the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station on Monday.

Roughly 20 federal inspectors will be on-site for about 3 weeks looking at the plant’s equipment, the performance of its employees, and the station’s overall procedures. The reviews will be completed in January.

The review comes after Pilgrim’s safety rating was downgraded last year following a number of safety issues and unplanned shutdowns.

Pilgrim is one of the three worst performing stations in the country, according to the NRC.
