Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum to Host Shipwreck Discussion

Don Wilding

PROVINCETOWN – The Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum will host a maritime discussion next month focusing on historic shipwrecks.

Cape Cod Historian Don Wilding will present “Shipwrecks of Cape Cod” on Wednesday, November 7 from 3 to 4 p.m. in the museum’s East Gallery.

Wilding, a columnist for the Cape Codder and author of “Henry Beston’s Cape Cod” and “A Brief History of Eastham,” will discuss some of the great shipwrecks and rescues on the Outer Beach of the Cape.

The stories range from the earliest days of the U.S. Lifesaving service in the 1870s to the early years of the U.S. Coast Guard in the first half of the 20th Century.

Wilding will look at the wrecks of the Castagna, Francis, Montclair, Jason, Portland and many more.

Admission to the talk is free.
