Pilgrim Monument Lighting Next Week

 

PROVINCETOWN – The annual lighting of the Pilgrim Monument next Wednesday on the traditional day for the celebration, the day before Thanksgiving.

The lighting commemorates the first landing of the Pilgrims in the New World in 1620.

Candy Collins-Boden will “flip the switch.” She’s the executive director of the Provincetown Chamber of Commerce and is retiring after 44 years at the chamber.

The lights include 19 strands of lights draped from top to bottom of the 252 foot monument, there are over 3,000 lights and the five strands represent the five weeks that the Pilgrims spent in Provincetown before moving on to Plymouth.

The celebration gets underway at 5 pm on Wednesday, November 21st.
